Dry Needling

At Moreland Orthopaedic & Sports Clinic we offer trigger point dry needling treatment as part of our service to ensure the best possible outcome for our clients. Trigger point dry needling is a treatment technique, which uses small filament acupuncture needles to release tight muscles with the goal of permanently reducing muscle pain and dysfunction. Manual Therapists around the world are now using this technique effectively to treat acute and chronic orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a technique which uses fine filament acupuncture needles to relieve pain and dysfunction caused by myofascial trigger points (commonly called muscle knots).

Does dry needling hurt?

Dry needling to relieve pain from a trigger point is usually significantly less painful than using massage to release the same area.

When would I need dry needling?

Dry needling can be used to treat any condition which involves painful or tight muscles. Ask your therapist whether dry needling might help your condition.

What is the difference between Needling and Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional form of medicine which uses fine filament needles to alter the flow of energy through the body. Acupuncture is used to treat general health conditions as well as muscular pain, and may aim to treat areas of the body which are distant from the placement of the needle.

Dry needling is a western medicine technique based on decades of scientific research. Dry needling aims to create a local response of muscle relaxation and pain relief at the site of needle placement
